Durham-Orange County Medical Society (DOCMS) is a professional organization for physicians and physician assistants with the purposes to:
- Unite and serve the medical practitioners of Durham and Orange Counties, North Carolina
- Promote the science and art of medicine, and support its position as a learned profession
- Encourage and facilitate continuing education of its members
- Serve as advocates for the welfare of patients and the health of the community at large
- Foster and preserve high standards of professional and ethical conduct
- Provide an opportunity for social and professional interaction across the spectrum of medical practitioners
- Provide a setting in which medical students and physician assistant students can interact as colleagues with established practitioners
DOCMS is organized and operated exclusively for charitable, scientific, literary and educational purposes within the meaning of sections 501(c)(6) and 170(c)(2) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986.
